"I don't see how y'all like anything that tastes like mint and chocolate" was my stance towards the mint and chocolate chip flavor category. It doesn't matter what kind of product contains the combination, it will always be a taste I don't too much desire. But what if it were weed? Would it change my mind? Allow me to share with you a new to me marijuana strain, Thin Mints, with some details covering its looks, tastes, and therapeutic benefits.
Thin Mints was introduced to me as part of a "free item with your purchase" thing. When I initially heard the name of the free cannabis I'd get, like so many other medicinal marijuana consumers, I instantly thought of Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies and wondered if the strain shared part of the Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) family tree.
Thin Mints, as it turns out, is more of GSC's doppelgänger in that the bud resembles GSC on harvest. With about an 18 percent THC content to upwards of 28 percent, I was told that the strain was an indica and that was it - this particular budtender looked as if he were ready to take a nap some place.
I was able to get a whiff of the bud which smelled like breaking open a mentha leaf.
I wondered if it would taste more like fresh mint or peppermint, and, before I could ask, another budtender walking by to grab a package of Thin Mints from a bin along the wall shouted to me politely that "the flavor of Thin Mints is totally like eating the actual Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies". She flashed me her biggest and happiest smile before quickly returning to her client.
Aw, sick! Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies?! Bleh! I almost wanted to reject the free gift because I really am not a friend of chocolate and mint but free weed is free heals! Besides, I could deal with an awful taste if the effects are powerful.
With no real review of the strain, I decided to perform some research on Thin Mints. Various sites mentioned Thin Mints as being a hybrid strain which I found interesting after consumption. Hybrid is the not the type that I would assign Thin Mints, but the effects people feel will likely vary from person to person.
It didn't take much before I felt tremendously grounded into my surroundings. Residual shaking from a current panic attack subsided. My mood did lighten and the stormy cloud that hung low above me cleared away. I was able to laugh without feeling the usual sharp or pulsating pain within my shoulder and neck whenever I laugh "too much".
Based on the relief I felt, Thin Mints is perfect for panic and anxiety attacks, depression, high levels of stress, headaches, and minor body aches (when consumed in small doses). I feel it's also worth mentioning that I did feel drowsy after about an hour. The indica side effects, such as marked periods of drowsiness and a heavy-handed body relaxation similar to a sedative, are prominent with Thin Mints. An hour and 15 minutes later and I was cuddled under blankets on my couch sound asleep.
With that said, please exercise caution, as you should with all of your cannabis, when you consume Thin Mints. Be responsible. If you are not familiar with heavy indica strains, start with a lower amount of bud than your usual as a sample.
All in all, I must say that Thin Mints is a fairly decent strain. True to its name, it does, in fact, taste like eating milk chocolate and mint. The taste wasn't so overwhelming that I couldn't enjoy the bud which I appreciated.
I must award Thin Mints three out of three Leaves!
