Blackwater is a truly mysterious strain. With two powerful parents, San Fernando Valley (SFV) and Mendo Purps, it's no brainer that Blackwater would follow its parents in providing one hell of an experience. I'm not going to lie with this strain. It definitely knocked me on my ass. I don't recommend this strain for my newbs (beginners), but the more seasoned medical marijuana patients will find this strain to be a huge help. Of course this strain review is my own opinion, so you may not think that newbs should stay away. Regardless, let's dive deep into the abyss of Blackwater with a review of the strains taste, look and medicinal benefits.
Taste and Look
The overall look of Blackwater as a pre-roll came wonderfully packed as all of the Tryke brand pre-rolls normally are. I did notice that Blackwater is labeled and sold as an indica dominant strain, Tryke Black Label. That being said, I did have certain expectations moving forward with Blackwater. I expected to not really taste the full terpene profile of this strain because I chose to try this as a pre-roll. I feel that concentrates tend to enhance the terpene profile of strains, so initially I was a little hesitant on trying Blackwater.
After initial inhalation of Blackwater, I could taste flavors that were earthy, yet grape-ish and only slightly pungent. I did enjoy the warm tones overall. As an indica, I did expect the flavor to be strong, but it wasn’t overwhelming. While I have yet to try Mendo Purps, I can vouch for SFV OG as being somewhat pungent, so I can understand where the flavors come from.
Based on taste alone, I give this strain two leaves out of three. It wasn’t overwhelmingly gross, but it wasn’t full of desirable flavors either. Though, I’m not a huge fan of the taste, I did benefit medicinally. Just keep reading on.
Medicinal Benefits
The medicinal benefits of Blackwater are nothing less than remarkable. I had instantaneous relief from chronic pain and reduction in my anxiety. Blackwater did give me relief from the days of restless nights I was experiencing just prior to consumption. Because the strain is a heavy-handed indica, I was relaxed, but I dealt with a great headache once my high was gone. However the headache that I had did not last long.
The potency of Blackwater makes this strain perfect for multiple sclerosis, PTSD induced insomnia, pain from arthritis and social anxiety.
Although the strain helps with a lot of different ailments with the only primary adverse effect being a headache following use, if you are sensitive to THC, you may want to stay away from this strain. As mentioned before, Blackwater is not recommended for beginners due to the potency.
All in all, I give Blackwater two Leaves out of three!
I did enjoy this strain, however the taste and the ensuing headache after my high didn’t wow me like other strains usually would. Have you ever tried Blackwater? Let me know if the potential for a headache afterwards would deter you from this strain, and as always, I’ll catch you in the trees!
